A TMWA backflow notice: track testing, repairs and report submission separately

Use the actual TMWA backflow notice to assign a qualified test, any separate repair, and report submission without mistaking an invoice for acceptance.

BRING THREE CLEAR QUESTIONS

Notice identity

Match address, device and deadline before arranging work.

Test and repair

A test result and a repair authorization answer different questions.

Submission status

Name the submitter and obtain confirmation of follow-through.

THE QUICK ANSWER

What to settle first.

For an actual TMWA notice, confirm the service address, assembly and due date with the utility, then assign who performs the required test and who submits the report. Track any authorized repair and the resulting test separately. TMWA’s report form records device identity, initial and final results and tester details. Paying for a visit does not prove that a passing report reached or was accepted by TMWA.

01 / WORK THROUGH THE DECISION

Let the notice identify the work

Keep the original utility notice and its date. Match the address and assembly information to the property record. If the notice identifies a domestic, irrigation or fire service, do not substitute a different device simply because it is easier to reach.

TMWA’s published program describes periodic testing, generally annual, and utility notices. The linked policy is dated; confirm the current requirement and deadline with TMWA rather than calculating a deadline from that historical document. This guide does not assert that every Reno home receives the same notice.

02 / WORK THROUGH THE DECISION

Check the tester route before the appointment

Ask TMWA which current tester qualifications and submission route apply, and confirm those with the proposed business. A general plumbing provider is not automatically qualified for the specific test. The official form includes tester identification and gauge information as well as the assembly manufacturer, model and serial number.

Record who schedules access and who is responsible for the report. Discuss any necessary service interruption with the relevant utility or qualified specialist. Do not operate, bypass or alter a backflow assembly to avoid a test, and do not treat a backflow notice as a sewer-backup diagnosis.

03 / WORK THROUGH THE DECISION

Authorize a failed-test remedy separately

If an initial test fails, request the finding and proposed remedy before authorizing repair or replacement. Identify parts, further testing, access and charges. Keep the initial result in the file even after the final result changes.

A private plumbing leak found during that visit can be discussed through the leak detection and repair guide. Ask whether that separate repair scope is offered; the call path does not promise certified backflow testing, fire-system work or utility acceptance.

04 / WORK THROUGH THE DECISION

Finish with a report and a submission trail

TMWA’s form distinguishes initial and final tests. Keep the completed report, device identifiers, dates and the submitter’s confirmation together. Follow up with TMWA if acceptance is unclear; “submitted” and “accepted” are different statuses.

For a manager with several devices, maintain one entry per assembly so a result for an irrigation device cannot accidentally close a domestic-service notice. Ask the responding business to confirm service availability, qualifications, assessment charges and the written scope at your address.

YOUR DISCUSSION CHECKLIST

Turn the conversation into clear answers.

Check an item once you have a recorded answer. These checks organize the conversation; they do not certify the design or work.

CALL-PREPARATION TOOL

Know what to say when you call.

Build a short outline from what you know. This does not submit a request or book service.

Selections stay on this page and reset on reload. A download saves a text file only when you choose it.

Common questions

Is a receipt for the test enough to close the notice?

Keep the test report and submission confirmation as well. Ask TMWA to clarify acceptance if the utility status is uncertain.

Does winterizing an irrigation assembly replace testing?

Do not assume so. Seasonal maintenance and the test identified in a utility notice have different purposes; ask TMWA about the actual device.
