Distinguish a fixture from a shared drain
Tell the plumber whether one sink is slow, several fixtures gurgle or water appears at a low drain when another fixture runs. Those patterns help guide assessment but do not establish the blockage location. Repeated blockages deserve an explanation of the cause, not simply another clearing.
Compare the clearing method
Ask what the proposed method is intended to achieve, whether the pipe condition affects its suitability, and what happens if the first approach fails. Camera inspection, access work and sewer repair may be separate items. Ask for authorization before a larger scope proceeds.
Avoid chemical mixing and exposure
Do not mix drain chemicals or add another product after a failed treatment. Tell the technician exactly what was used. Keep children and pets away from contaminated water and limit use of fixtures that worsen a backup. Ask separately about cleaning affected materials.
Questions to ask about drain clearing & blockages
- Which fixtures are affected?
- Does use elsewhere trigger the backup?
- Were any chemicals used?
Does the quote include everything?
Ask about assessment charges, the proposed remedy, parts, testing and work excluded from the scope. Availability and charges depend on the independent business and actual property.
