Ask for findings you can understand
For persistent backups, ask what evidence supports the proposed sewer repair. A camera record can help explain a suspected issue, but the contractor should identify its location, limitations and relevance to the symptoms. A recording alone does not establish the complete excavation or replacement scope.
Compare access and repair options
Discuss which options fit the pipe condition and site access. Ask whether cleaning, spot repair or replacement is being proposed and why. Excavation and trenchless methods have different constraints; neither is automatically appropriate for every property. Verify permits and utility coordination with the responsible professionals.
Include the surface-restoration boundary
Ask who restores paving, landscaping and interior finishes after access work. Identify inspection, testing, disposal and additional-work authorization in writing. If shared or public infrastructure may be involved, confirm responsibility before agreeing to repairs on an assumed private line.
Questions to ask about sewer line assessment & repair
- How often does the backup recur?
- Is an inspection record available?
- Is the affected line private or shared?
Does the quote include everything?
Ask about assessment charges, the proposed remedy, parts, testing and work excluded from the scope. Availability and charges depend on the independent business and actual property.
